For many disabled workers, making it to the Social Security Administration (SSA) office nearest them can often prove to be difficult due to their conditions. The agency has recognized this problem and has created a much simpler way to apply for Social Security Disability benefits.
According to the Sioux City Journal, the SSA built an online portal in which disabled individuals can begin the process of applying for Social Security disability benefits. The application process will examine whether a person has worked long enough to receive benefits, an individual’s ability to work, and the severity of their condition.
Mike McWilliams, a District Manager for the SSA, states it could take three to five months after an application is submitted for a decision to be reached. He added that factors such as the nature of a disability, the ease and speed of receiving medical evidence and documentation of a condition, and the need for further medical examinations, could affect how quickly a decision is reached in a case.
McWilliams pointed out using the Quick Disability Determinations Initiative is just one way an individual may be able to speed the process for approval along.
The Social Security Disability Lawyers at the law firm of Newlin Disability say the process of applying for benefits can be extremely complex. That’s why the firm suggests discussing your case with an attorney prior to applying for benefits.
