The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently discovered that it had overpaid thousands of Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income recipients billions of dollars in recent years. The agency is pinpointing who and what needs cuts, but such moves could leave many unable to make ends meet.

Take the case of a 36-year-old single mother of two boys, whose lives could seriously be affected by the cuts. According to the News Chief, the woman holds a part-time job earning $9 per hour at a local country club. Since the father of her two children is in jail, she receives no child support and is only kept afloat through benefits she and the boys, ages 10 and 12-years-old, receive for learning disabilities.

This could all change though as the SSA recently informed her of a miscalculation in her benefits had resulted in overpayment and that she would see a cut in her benefits. The cut leaves the woman and her family to live well below the established income for what is considered poverty levels and could result in her soon being homeless.
