Living With Back Pain
If you’ve ever hurt your back, you know just how debilitating the pain associated with such injuries can be. So it should come as no surprise that one study found back pain disabilities were one of the leading conditions named on Social Security Disability claims today.
How Common Is Back Pain?
The study was published in the British Medical Journal and examined the cases of millions of individuals from around the world, including the United States, who were considered disabled due to mental or physical conditions. Researchers found that one-third of those individuals could no longer work, partially or entirely, because of back pain.
What Are The Risk Factors For Back Pain?
Injuries and illnesses resulting in back pain were found chiefly among agricultural workers. These individuals were found to be at a four times greater risk than other workers of developing back pain. Other factors that were found to contribute to back pain were jobs where heavy lifting, vibrations, forceful movement, or awkward positions are prevalent.
