There are currently hundreds of thousands of Americans who are unable to work due to a mental or physical condition who have waited long periods of time for a decision to be reached regarding their Social Security Disability claim. That\u2019s why the government developed a program known as Social Security Disability Compassionate Allowances<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The program allows for individuals suffering from the most seriously debilitating health conditions to receive an expedited decision regarding their Social Security Disability claims. Until recently, there were roughly 200 such conditions qualifying under the program. This past Wednesday though, the Social Security Administration\u2019s Acting Commissioner, Carolyn W. Colvin, announced 25 more conditions would be added to the list.<\/p>\n

While all the conditions that were added to the list can be seen here, the additions consisted of several different types of cancers and disorders that can affect the digestive, neurological, immune systems.<\/p>\n

Similar additions were cited as a contributing factor in reducing the backlog of unprocessed benefit claims several years ago. Officials are hopeful the move may play a part in meeting the agency\u2019s goal of eliminating the backlog in the next two years.<\/p>\n
