With the Social Security Administration (SSA) looking for ways to make the process of distributing Social Security Disability Benefits more efficient, SSA Commissioner Michael Astrue recently announced that several new online services are available for beneficiaries.
An article from the Redwood Times stated that those beneficiaries who have a My Social Security Account could access the new services. Some of those new services being mentioned for the some 60 million recipients with accounts include:
- Access to benefit verification letters
- Payment histories
- Records of earnings
- Ability to change addresses and direct deposit information
Astrue says the new system will dramatically cut the time both Social Security recipients and SSA employees spend working to receive or simply change documents with out having to make a phone call or visit a local SSA office.
Anyone who is over the age of 18-years-old can sign up for an account by visiting the SSA website. Those who are Social Security recipients will have access to information about their benefits, while those who don’t receive such benefits will be able to access a personalized Social Security statement.
Access to other important documents, like retirement and Medicare, are also available through the site.
