Waiting on First Disability Benefits Payment
Congratulations! You’ve won your disability case and are on track to achieving the Social Security Disability benefits you deserve. That’s great news, but did you know you’re going to have to wait five months to receive your first payment? The wait has been a part of the program since its inception in the 1950’s. It’s an old law that doesn’t make a lot of sense to someone who has paid into the social security system and has already been approved to receive benefits.
You Won a Disability Benefits Claim
If you won your case on the 1st of September you wouldn’t actually start receiving those benefits until the following March. There is, however, a small exception to the rule. For those who become disabled due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), you can immediately start receiving your benefits. New legislation is being proposed to change the law and essentially, end the wait.
At Newlin Disability we strive to educate our clients on what to expect after your case has been won. Achieving Social Security Disability benefits can be a long process, but at Newlin Disability we aim to help you through every step, ensuring that you are kept up to date on your Social Security Disability case by being in touch with one of our Social Security Disability experts on a consistent basis.
If you have any questions about “the wait” or if you qualify to receive Social Security Disability benefits, give our office a call to speak with a Social Security Disability expert. Newlin Disability helps clients achieve Social Security Disability benefits across the United States and are ready to help you!
